The dynasty began with the great Rajah Kharak, king of all and most divine amongst rulers. Having refused the ancient religion of his fathers he formed Khalsa, an empire of mercilessness with the intention of being one of the greatest rulers of a millennia. Bringing back the brutal customs of his forefathers he seeks to reinstate a terrifying culture that has long been dead. Not only does he seek to possess one of the most powerful armies in all of the land, but he also seeks to have one of the most bountiful harems. In the times of old a male’s power was determined by how many wives he had within his harem. Not only did he want the most wives he also wanted the fiercest and most dangerous wives that this continent could offer him. To accomplish this he brought back the brutal practice of the breeding tournaments. When he selected a new bride to adorn his harem she would have to fight for a rank within it. Not only could the other wives challenge each other for a rank they could also be challenged by the courtesans on the eve of their mating to the Rajah. Each female who made it past the tournament and gained a spot amongst his harem was given the title of Rani, or queen. Each Rani fought and triumphed in her goal to become his next queen, leaving a bloody trail behind her. While it seems odd that so many females would fight to attain a place in one male’s harem it is an honor to be the Rani ranked first. The female who could attain such a rank gained herself a place of importance and security in the Rajah’s heart and bed. Not only that but the three females ranked highest within the harem are given the chance to breed and produce with the Rajah. This is one of the only times a female can give birth to the heirs of the pack who will rule after the Rajah is dead. While all of the wives seek to please the Rajah they also seek to see their offspring on the throne next.
The offspring are in much a similar situation as the Ranis are. They are also expected to fight for a rank within the pack, with only the strongest heirs rising to the challenge of becoming the next Rajah. It is also possible for an heir to challenge the current Rajah for power with the disclaimer that those who fail risk death in the battles. While some may seek to risk it all for a chance to rule beside their father, other heirs might wish to spend their life in servitude to the kingdom. Others might choose to flee the violence and brutality that is Khalsa. Some may even be claimed by other wolves within the pack. If youth do not rank up by the age of one year they face the possibility of exile (if males) and the females will be forced to stay and serve beneath the Ranis.
While it is a dangerous battle within the arena it is even more treacherous outside of battle. Intrigue and jealousy abound in the harems, plots to assassinate and murder others for ranks is not unheard of. Though the law decrees that no quarrel shall be stirred up outside of the battles there is no way to stop the treachery from happening. Within this pack the only person a wolf can trust is themselves, and pray that they survive to see the glory that is ranking one. Riches, favor, adoration, and a life of ease all await the Rani who earns herself a high rank. Nothing is given in Khalsa and so each and every wolf must fight to earn their place within the ranks, even the most insignificant Ranis can prove themselves lethal and gain favor. While this style of life may not appeal to all it is apparent to most that the fights are worth it in the hopes that they might achieve everlasting glory. Not only will the Ranis achieve glory, but the highest ranked females will also gain some power within the pack. They will command all except the Rajah and are free in their power unless it goes against the decrees of the Rajah.
The Breeding Tournament - At the beginning of each breeding season a tournament is held for those females wishing to attain a higher rank. Any Rani can challenge another female for her rank if she wishes. If she does so she risks permanent injury as well as possible death. If she succeeds in defeating her challenger she attains the rank of the one that she defeated. Once the tournament is over the three top ranked females are given the chance to breed with the Rajah. If she conceives and is blessed with a litter they are considered to be heirs to the kingdom, all contenders for the throne. All challenges must be issued a month before the end of the breeding season, unless the female is a recent addition to the pack. The Breeding Tournament is also the only time that a courtesan is able to challenge a female for her place as a Rani within the harem. This competition is only for females belonging to the Rajah, no other females are able to participate in this tournament.
The Heirs- The heirs fight in a similar tournament that lasts all year. Any offspring of the Rajah born to the breeding tournament victors will be given a chance to fight for the chance to ascend to the throne. Only the strongest and fiercest will survive these battles so they should choose their opponent carefully. Success in the battles ensures their father’s favor. It is not mandatory that the heirs battle, but those who do not battle will not inherit favor or the throne.

In the times of old there were many kingdoms all led by different Rajahs and their warriors. Each had their own harem and all fought amongst themselves for the title of the greatest leader. War ravaged the lands for a millennium as each king sought out the chance to become a god. The old religion promised that the Rajah that held the largest harem with the fiercest females would ascend to heaven and gain the powers of a god. Of course the males were meant to cherish their females, for they were the tools that gained glory. Instead the males used the females as pawns, pitting them against each other and allowing the death of so many. It was a time of great suffering for females, their slaughter momentous as they all fought at the command of their Rajah. They were nothing more than tools to gain access to heaven. Their cries reached the ears of heaven and a savior was sent to them, in the form on Krism. He was a king and conqueror, sent to destroy the establishment that had so shamed ancient custom. The ancient kingdoms were torn down and the ancient religion buried deep in history. The subjects rejoiced freedom from tyranny and praised the new king. When the time came for him to take a Queen he did so for the love in his heart, not for her potential for power. Little did they know that soon a great power would come to Anikira. He would reinstate the customs of old and bring back the most feared and hated custom of their culture.
It all began the day Kharak, the greatest Rajah in history was born on Anikira. Born to a mother, Miria, and a father, Krism the Rajah at the time. Perhaps it began even before that in the times before his conception. Krism was the first wolf to bring together the warring tribes of their people. Settling the disputes of all with an iron will and determination. Through the turmoil and devastation of so much war coming to a complete end in mere days, Krism chose a Rani from amongst the most bitter enemies and they made quick work of producing an heir. With the birth of Kharak came stability for the pack. They were allied through blood and everyone adored their new little prince. Little did they know that Kharak had no want or need for the peace they had all worked so hard to achieve. Being raised a prince, adored by all left him spoiled and unchecked. Raised with a violent temper and little discipline he cause many troubles within the pack. The sweet little prince was not as good a solution as everyone thought. Rather than allow the unstable prince to rule when he came of age the Rajah and Rani decided to try for another litter. They prayed for new sons and daughters that would be strong enough to depose their poor mad son. Little did they know that Kharak would not accept being looked over for the crown. When he neared the age of one his parents began their efforts to conceive, driving Kharak into a frenzied rage. One day while out on a hunt with his father, Kharak slaughtered him. Blaming it on a wild cat he returned to his distraught mother. Becoming the Rajah at a young age didn't suit him. He was wild, reckless, and out of control. Even though he tried his best to temper his wild inclinations it was still apparent to Miria that he was not eligible to rule.
Unbeknownst to him Miria carried a litter, conceived before the death of his father. Suspecting foul play Miria kept her new pups a secret for as long as she could, hoping that they would live long enough to depose Kharak. Of course her figure grew and grew until there was no doubt of her condition. Playing the part of doting son Kharak waited and waited until he was sure that his mother could grow no more with pups. Eager for reassurance that he would remain the king he pressured her into promising that he would rule. She would give her nothing little promises silently waiting for the day she gave birth. All she could do is pray that Kharak would feel some pity for his own brothers and sisters, for his own mother. That prayer was left unanswered however for on the eve of her birthing day, Kharak killed his mother. Ripping her open he pulled each pup from her body, crushing each before her as the life faded from her eyes. Her last words were 'I will stop you' lingering on her lips. Of course the rest of his pack did not appreciate him killing his parents so he was driven from the kingdom promised to him. With no leaders to rule over them the packs dissolved back into war.
Left to be the Rajah of nothing but himself he now roams the lands looking to start his own kingdom. Not only is he eager to inherit his birth right, but he is also ready to reinstate the practices of war once driven out by his father. Wandering the barren lands of the Occasus he has joined with other wolves who share his desire for greatness. Together they have founded Khalsa, the pack in the desert.
Life was long and prosperous for years after the pack was created. Many came, the pack grew. The first of the Rani tournaments was held and the first pure-bred offspring of Kharak came into the world. And then the Rajah disappeared. After searching and waiting, the pack's Srhaadas, Beowulf and Kalique, took over in order to keep the pack safe and strong. It was not long after that Kalique also mysteriously disappeared and left Beowulf to take over on his own, and led by his meditations with the Gods, Beowulf began to lead Khalsa into a new era...

Pack Ranks
Rajah - The supreme ruler of the Khalsa, he is the king over all. Nothing is above the Rajah in rank other than the gods. His word is the law and nothing can counteract his decrees. He is the highest power in the entire kingdom and as such demands respect from all. Those who disobey or disappoint him are subject to his punishment even execution.
Rani - The wife to the Rajah this title is given to all of the women that he marries. This ranking is not reserved for a single female but given to all that he chooses to marry. A culture of harems surround this pack so it is not uncommon for the Rajah to take multiple wives. Depending on her ranking the Rani is second only to the Rajah. She is to be treated with respect and courtesy, except when she is breaking the laws set down by the Rajah. The Rani is meant to remain loyal and dedicated to the Rajah, indiscretions or betrayals resulting in demotion to courtesan or even execution.
Srhaada - These are wolves who are trusted by the Rajah, whether they are advisors, or leaders within the pack. They enjoy the title of trusted and are able to keep mates and children within the pack. They are also able to enjoy the courtesans and share the Rajah’s confidence.
Guru - The priest or priestess amongst the pack. They are the chief of all things religious and make sure to keep the Rajah on the path of the gods. Their interpretation of the gods wills is second only to the Rajah and they are meant to educate all of those within the pack in the ways of the gods.
Paala - The guards of the pack. Their job is to protect all within the pack from harm. They protect the territory and patrol the borders and most especially keep the Rajah and Ranis from harm. They are the muscle of the pack and are expected to take care of all matters including war and espionage.
Shaandhya - The eunuchs, those wolves who have been castrated and given the task of serving the Ranis. They are expected to guard, escort, and serve the Ranis and Ganika of the pack however they can. They have been castrated so as to protect the integrity of the Ranis and are specially selected from the class of servants and slaves. This rank is considered a great honor as these males have the utmost trust from the Rajah.
Kimmati - These are those wolves who are considered precious. They belong neither to the Rajah or any wolf within the pack. They are the sisters, daughters, or mothers of Kharak's trusted. They are not destined for the life of a servant or the life of a battling queen. Instead they serve in other roles such as hunters, healers, helpers, or caretakers.
Ganika - These females are the courtesans within the Rajah’s harem. These females are kept for the pleasure and enjoyment of the entire pack. Any male within the Paala and Srhadda ranks can pair with any female of the Ganika. She is not allowed to refuse any advances for any reason and if she conceives a litter, the pups are written off as bastards and join the ranks as servants or are cast out. They can achieve the rank of the Rani by challenging one of the Ranis, but only during the tournament preceding the breeding season.
Dasa - These are the servants of the pack. They work as hunters, spies, healers, and midwives. They do anything that is asked of them and are only above the slaves. Their service is appreciated and is often rewarded if given faithfully.
Dasyu - This rank is for the slaves of the pack. They do all of the tasks considered to be below that of the servants. They are not rewarded for faithful service as they are not seen as giving service. They are being punished and their slavery works as a way to redeem themselves from whatever shame they have brought on themselves. Despite their efforts there is rarely a way to redeem oneself from slavery.
