They had been a pack for some time now, and thankfully everything within Aveline had been peaceful and quiet. Itero had gotten comfortable in their new home, and he was finally happy and relaxed the majority of the time. His pale paws carried him slowly towards the Chamoru Plains, his growling stomach signaling that it was about time to attempt hunting again. He had never exactly been the best hunter, and in the green of the plains his white coat would likely stand out a bit. However, with the pack being so small, he did not truly have much of an option. It was part of his duty as one of the pack's leaders to provide for their members and he would do his best to at least try. By the time he reached the edge of the plains, he lowered himself down into the low grass, allowing just his head and ears to poke out from the tops of the greenery in order to search for a proper target.
There was a small herd of deer in the distance, and slowly he ducked his head and began his crawl forward. He took his time, carefully placing his steps and making sure he did not make too much noise. Thankfully the wind blew strong that day, and in his direction so that the herd would not pick up on his scent until it was too late. What felt like hours later, he came to a stop only a few yards from the grouping of creatures, his eyes scanning slowly across their numbers. It took him a little while, but eventually he spotted an injured doe hidden within their ranks, protected by the others carefully. He would need to spook the herd, scatter them so that he could get to her more easily. It would take a sprint that he was uncertain he could pull off, but he had to at least try.
It was when the wind shifted that he was forced to act. The closest deer to him lifted its head, sniffing the air and searching through the grass to target the predator. When it spotted the flash of white fur, Itero was already leaping forward. Thankfully this startled them enough to send the herd scattering, and he darted in the direction of the injured female. It was difficult to focus on his paws and the grass and the deer all at the same time, but thankfully he managed to get a good bite into the creature's hind leg and slow it down even further. Eventually it tripped, just as he was beginning to run out of breath from his surprisingly fast run. It fell heavily in front of him, and he was forced to kick his front paws out in front of him in order to skid to an abrupt stop so he did not fall himself.
Then he stepped on the creature, digging his teeth into the throat and ending the poor creature's life. His jaws released it only moments after the struggling stopped and he stood over the deer, a single paw resting on it's chest as he caught his breath. This elevated his front half enough to see around him if he chose, but once he managed to stop panting so heavily, he lifted his nose to the sky and howled to the rest of the pack. It was at least to alert them that he had food, and perhaps get some company out of it. He had grown much more comfortable with everyone lately, but he was still wary of Iatro's brother, Ramiel. The other male seemed to hate him instantly, and for the most part he simply did his best to avoid the other canine. So far it had not been difficult, but he wondered what the future would hold for them if the other male's dislike continued to grow.
