Summer has finally arrived! The sun has melted the snows in the north and the southern territories are beginning to grow uncomfortably hot and dry. Pups are being born and life seems to finally be getting back to normal after the cure for the disease was found. But how long will it last?
The cure has been found! Wolves on Anikira are recovering from the disease and life is moving forward with the promise of pups in many packs. And yet darkness looms on the horizon, daring the creatures of Anikira to relax and allow themselves to get comfortable once more.
It has been awhile since the young dwarf had ventured away from the dens and its surrounding areas. Today seemed like the perfect day to do so since her parents and siblings were nowhere to be found. Plus the weather was perfect for exploring. The sun was high in the sky and the white fluffy things that were sometimes in the sky were completely gone. The temperature was a bit warmer than she would have liked but it wasn’t unbearable and Diomedes could always find shade somewhere if it got to her too much. Once she finally got going, she pondered on where she should go. Since she was by the waterfall and the reef that helped make up Ina’mos, her only two choices was the swamp and the prairie that made up the rest of the island. The dwarf wasn’t really in the mood to get dirty today so she decided to go to Bel Veldt.
The brown hued female didn’t have to travel far since the prairie was close to the dens that she spent most of her time at. As she got closer, purple flowers started to pop up in the grass. Diomedes had only been to this area a couple times before so these plants where foreign to her. They had a fuzzy look to them so the young female didn’t think that they were edible but she wasn’t one hundred percent sure. The Dire mix drew closer to one and studied it with her beautiful orange eyes. Despite looking a little weird, the purple flowers didn’t look too dangerous. Before she took a bite of one, she was interrupted by a small voice that was coming from somewhere nearby. The dwarf shot her head up and scanned the area to see if she could spot whomever the voice belonged to. The form of a black female that was about her age soon entered her field of view. The brown hued female’s ears perked up in curiosity as she made her way over to the unknown female.
“Hello, my name is Diomedes, what might your name be?”
Days had passed since the young male had bothered to explore beyond the immediate area of the dens. There were plenty of small creatures nearby to practice hunting with, and when he came upon a particularly stubborn and feisty one he even got the chance to spar a little bit… even though it was obviously never to the level where he actually had to put any effort into it. The orange eyed wolf had finally gotten to the point where he was bored enough to venture off once again… his mother was out doing what her position required of her in Kairos now that they were all old enough to essentially fend for themselves and thus he really had no excuse to just hang around the dens hoping to catch sight of her to spend even more time with her. Surely she couldn’t be tired of spending time with him, right? The Dire mixed wolf shook his head, clearing his mind of such thoughts… no, of course she wasn’t, she still had to contribute to the greatness that is Kairos like she’s supposed to was all.
Arcturus had made his way to Bel Veldt before the sun had even risen that day. His family had all still been asleep, but the curious young brute wanted to see the fields of purple flowers before and after the sun had risen. He had met a wolf that told him the flowers closed up their tiny petals with the sun gone and only opened when the sun returned each day… Arcturus had not believed him at first but spent one evening in the fields when the sun set and watching as the flowers did exactly what the old wolf had said they would… and today he decided he wanted to see them open up again with the arrival of the sun. He arrived just as the sun had begun to peek over the horizon, and as the light spread over the land he watched as the large purple flowers on each stem opened up. He couldn’t help but wonder if this was something all flowers did or if it was specific to those in the field. He decided to ask Morag about it next time they had the chance to spend time together. A yawn came forth from his muzzle and he decided that since the day was still plenty young, he would go to sleep for just a little while longer. He walked to the edge of the field where a few trees stood and settled down in between the roots of one to nap.
Arcturus was awoken a few hours later by the heat of the sun, which had now climbed high into the clear skies above him, and the sound of one of his sister’s voice. He picked his head up with a small yawn, ears swiveling to pinpoint where the sound had come from… it was Diomedes, the smallest of his litter… and it sounded like she was with someone else? The young brute scented the wind, but the only fresh scent that came to him from nearby was that of his sister. Was he imagining things? The brown and cream coated male slowly stood up and stretched, letting one more yawn loose before looking around for his sister. Once he spotted her he trotted in her direction, slowing to a stop just a couple feet away from her left side, “Hey Diomedes,” he said with a small wag of his tail, “Was someone out here with you?” he asked, head cocked slightly to one side as he asked. He noticed she was looking rather expectantly at a clump of the purple flowers he had watched open up that morning… maybe she saw a prairie dog?
Just like her brother and sisters, the ebony canine that stood before he was much larger than herself. It wasn’t hard for her to find many that were smaller than her since she had somehow inherited dwarfism. This caused Diomedes to stand out from others quite easily. Being born a dwarf was something that the chocolate point hated the fact when she was younger but the passing of time had allowed her to start and embrace it. Even though she now accepted the fact, it still made it awkward for the Dire mix when it came to new faces. It’s hard to tell how another individual might react to something like that, so if someone were to react negatively, it would make her feel uncomfortable and would try her best to get out as soon as possible. However, the other female had yet to display any indication of her feelings toward Diomeses. Instead, her ebony filled eyes just stared straight back at her.
“Cyrene,” the larger female said in a seducing voice.
Everything about Cyrene was mesmerizing to the young dwarf which caused her to want to draw even closer. There was no hesitation at all a Diomedes took a step closer and was about to take another one when another voice caught her attention. The Dire mix turned her head back and realized that her brother Arcturus had joined the scene. It felt like it had been awhile since the chocolate point had seen her brother last so she bounded off immediately in his direction, temporarily forgetting all about the other female that was just a few feet way. Before she vocally greeted the male, she ran into his chest and gave him a welcoming nudge. Now that they were grown up, the siblings started to see less of each other as they veered off on their own paths.
“Arcturus! I have missed you dearly, brother. Do you not see the black female standing over there? Her name is Cyrene and she is absolutely lovely.”

The brown and cream colored brute waited expectantly for his sister to acknowledge his presence… her attention seemed completely focused on whatever was in a clump of flowers in front of her and he couldn’t help but turn to look in their direction, orange hued orbs seeking out the odd shape or color she was focused on, or even the slightest bit of movement amongst the foliage. He was frustrated with himself when he could not find whatever it was that his dear sister was looking at, but his attention was quickly brought back to his sister as he caught sight of her movement. He braced himself only slightly as his much smaller sibling came up to nudge him in greeting, Arcturus lowered his crown and gently nuzzled his chin into the spot where her spine met her skull and let his tongue loll out to lick over the back of one of her ears as he brought his head back up to it’s normal position. His ears pricked as her sweet voice reached them and he took in what she was saying attentively, even if it puzzled him.
“I have missed you as well, sweet Diomedes.” The large brute answered softly, trying to keep the confusion from his voice. Arcturus inhaled deeply once more, but again he was only met with his sister’s scent. His brow furrowed in a mixture of deep thought and confusion, he looked once again at the clump of flowers that she had been looking toward earlier, but there was nothing, “No, I don’t see this female, Dio… is she hiding?” Arcturus asked of his sister. He wasn’t sure how to take it… had she dreamed there was someone here? Or was she just messing with him and trying to get a rise out of him? What if she genuinely could see someone, like a spirit of some sort? Arcturus quickly dismissed the idea… no, she wouldn’t be so calm about a spirit, of that he was certain. “Cyrene, was it? I hope she’s nice.” he said gently, sitting back on his haunches to settle in for a while and enjoy spending some time with his sister. He wasn’t sure how to take her mention of another wolf that he could neither see nor smell, but for his sister… well, he would at least entertain the idea for the time being.

Jaidah is one of the albinos on the site, a brand new character brought to life by a brand new player. It is interesting to see how such a pure looking being could be wrapped up in the angsty claws that is Irkalla! We will definitely be staying in-tune with this character to see just what heights Bird is able to take her!
